When Do I Call the Doctor
As a result of cancer and its treatment you will experience certain physical changes in your body. Some of these changes may be small and temporary; however, a few may be cause for concern and may require you to get in touch with your doctor immediately.
Potential Emergency Situations
- Persistent Fever or Fever above 100F
- A new cough, which persists for more than a month
- Recurrent bleeding from any area or unexplained bruising
- Wound discharge or pain
- A rash or allergic reaction such as swelling or severe itching or wheezing post chemotherapy
- Intense chills/shivering post chemotherapy
- Pain or soreness at the chemotherapy injection site
- Unusual pain (intense headaches, severe abdominal pain, severe muscle cramps)
- Shortness of breath or any breathing difficulty
- Prolonged diarrhea (more than 4-5 motions)
- Severe vomiting, especially during chemotherapy (for example, unable to retain even a sip of water)
- Bloody stool or Blood in urine
- Burning during urination
- Not being able to pass urine OR not having any desire for urination
- Sudden loss of movement in hands or legs (paralysis)
- Complete inability to have solids or liquids
- Loss of vision
- Convulsions (without any prior history)
- Intense fatigue
